Seeing the development of parents and their children – that’s among the many things Charles Wilson loves most about his job as site director of BRIDGES at Northwood.
On any given day, Charles supervises seven staff members, interacts with members of the community, and maintains partnerships with other organizations throughout West Palm Beach.
Charles grew up in Port St. Lucie and has lived in Palm Beach County for 25 years. He loves gardening and working in the yard. Oh, and, he wants everyone to know: his first name is Charles, not Wilson (that gets to be confusing sometimes!).
Here’s what else you should know about Charles.
1) Why did you decide to work at BRIDGES?
Charles: I wanted to continue the work started in the Beacon Center. I love interacting with the people of the community.
2) What do you enjoy most about your job?
Charles: It’s working with the staff at the site and interacting with the community. It’s also having the opportunity to meet different professionals and seeing the development of parents and their children.
3) How are you making a difference in the lives of BRIDGES families?
Charles: It’s by assuring the members we do listen to what they are saying. We try to implement activities that they feel will benefit them. When they see this, it makes them know that they are part of the BRIDGES family. I also make a difference through activities that have enhanced their parenting skills and their relationship with their children.
4) What do you hope families gain from attending BRIDGES activities?
Charles: I want them to feel empowered — that they have skills to develop relationships with others within the community.
